Cheerleaders leading the parade for Terrence HigginsTerrence Higgins Trust Parade

 By Tallulah

With a mad variety of costumes, make up and glitter this wasn’t just any Saturday in the city, this was Gay Pride Saturday. It turns out that the PC’s have a gay following and so we were hired by the Terrence Higgins Trust to add some cheer to their section of the Gay Pride parade to help celebrate everything that's gay as well as raise awareness of the charity.

We started at Baker Street, where it was slightly hard to spot our clients at first because we were easily distracted by the colourful costumes and amazing floats and music being played from every different direction.

But when we finally found them, we were given a great welcome and really made to feel part of the Terrence Higgins team. They plastered stickers all over our bodies, showered us with glitter and then we set off. The sun was shining and, with the lively music being played from the floats, it wasn’t long before we’d got everyone cheering and dancing down the streets in celebration.

Once we got on the move we started to realize how massive this event actually is. We walked down Baker Street, then along Oxford Street and down Regents Street. Once we reached Piccadilly Circus we paraded down Pall Mall and finished with a huge party in Trafalgar Square. It was a long route and all the way, the streets were lined with people waving and cheering us on. Everyone wanted to experience the fun. People were even gathering at the windows of the hotels and department stores, trying to get a look at the parade. The PC’s literally cheered and danced the whole way round; we never stopped!

The atmosphere was amazing. It really was fantastic to be part of something that has been going for over 20 years and just gets bigger and better each year. By the end of the parade we had almost lost our voices, but it was all worth it. The Terrence Higgins Trust team were so happy to have the PC’s cheering for them and we had an awesome time. I honestly can’t think of a more fun way to travel through London. I think we should start Cheer Pride and have a parade like that for cheerleaders ; )
