Filming a By Elle “Patiala House take 3 aaaaaand action!” Yes, believe it or not the Pineapple Cheerleaders have been cast in the biggest Bollywood movie of the year – Patiala House, staring alongside a glamorous cast, and lead by the fantastic Akshay Kumar!!! The plot is about a young man who becomes a cricket star so we were cast to play the cheerleaders for the cricket team. Typecasting rules!This is what a typical day on set looked like: The driver collected us from our hotel and took us to and from the set each day.Arriving on set early morning was a must. Luckily we had a scrummy full English breakfast every morning to set us up for the day. Then it was off to our own trailer to get ready. We had about 2hrs of pampering, make-up and hairstyling with a fabulous team of make up artists who gave us gorgeous dramatic Bollywood style make up and the best ‘big hair’ we’ve ever achieved! They so got the concept of cheer styling! Then we had to change into our custom made cheerleading costumes. They were so cute and had been tailor made to fit us perfectly. The filming took place in a cricket ground. As soon as we entered, the entire film crew treated us like stars. People kept stopping us to have their photo taken with the cheerleaders. Who knew cheerleading would go down so well with the Bollywood crowd! Our performance involved dancing and cheering on our own little stages surrounding the cricket action. The extras went wild, cheering for us every time we appeared. You could tell how excited everyone was to be involved. Filming was pretty chaotic with the director shouting how he wanted us to respond for the different scenes literally moments before they shot it. It wasn’t really rehearsed, we were just told what to do as we went along so we had to think on our feet. But it was a really fresh way to work and there was a constant atmosphere of fun on the set. There were quite a few famous cricket players making cameos in the movie so every day brought new surprises and celebrities with it. The crème de la crème of international cricket players were on set, with former England captain John Embery coaching the cricket player’s cast. One of the perks of being a Pineapple Cheerleader is all the socialising with the lovely cricket players and it wasn’t long before the sportsmen spotted the Pineapple Cheerleaders and came over to make friends. We had lots of fun on set hanging out with our fellow guest stars including Herschelle Gibbs from the South African cricket team and Dirk Nannes from the Australian team - nice working with you boys ; ) Shooting a Bollywood movie is definitely an experience of a lifetime which (and I am also writing on behalf of my lovely squad members), we thoroughly enjoyed. Can’t wait for the premiere in Leicester Square! “Cut!” |
