What are your top 3, all-time favourite Cheerleading Company hen parties in London?
- Single Ladies - because I love Beyonce and that dance and is the chance for everyone to be sassy and sexy!
- Glee - because I am a total Gleek
- Street - because I love street and hip hop and is really fun doing all the different styles.
How long have you been teaching dance hen parties in London?
I have been coaching hen parties for The Cheerleading Company for over 4 years now and I absolutely love it!
We cover a whole range of dance styles so it is a fantastic opportunity to be able to introduce people to all of the different types of dance that I love. Hen parties appeal to me because it is great to teach a group who are all there to have a good time. I always find myself getting carried away and forgetting that I’m the teacher and joining in with the fun! I also love hearing about what they’re getting up to later and all their wedding plans, as I love weddings and am an old romantic!
What is your favourite hen party moment?
My favourite hen party experience was a Glee hen party in London last summer. The group were Irish and so much fun! They were all up for such a good time including the mothers which I always love as they have no inhibitions! I love Glee and so did the hen obviously so we all just laughed a lot and got right into it! I remember after feeling like I’d done a day at college as was sweating and absolutely shattered. I also couldn’t speak as had been shouting and singing so much. They were so grateful as well for having had such a great time which always makes you feel lovely!
What dance qualifications do you have?
I studied dance at Edinburgh’s Telford College where I got an NC in dance and then went on to complete a 3 years dancers and teachers course at Ballet West in the beautiful Highlands of Scotland! I got up to my Advanced 2 RAD in ballet as well as completing my course in all other styles of dance.
What sorts of dance jobs have you done?
Wow – there are loads. While at Ballet West I toured Scotland with the Company with full length ballets and musicals which was great fun and an incredible experience. Then, when I moved to London, I took a completely different route and found a love of hip hop which has led to lots of amazing jobs including music videos, cabarets and live shows. I danced live for The Mystery Jets, as well as appearing in their music videos, which was fantastic. I also dance with a professional dance performance company and my repertoire now includes stilt walking and using fire clubs! We have travelled all around the world to incredible places such as Hong Kong, Quatar, Tunisia and many more! I’ve even performed at Glastonbury – twice!!!
Who are your dance inspirations?
It’s hard to specify as there are so many amazing dancers out there but I am a ballet bob at heart because of my training so I love Darcy Bussell and also Alina Cojocaru who I saw at the Royal Opera House during Romeo and Juliet and wow - it blew me away so much I cried. I also love Michael Jackson so much so I wanted to call my little brother after him when he was born (I managed to get it in as middle name!) He was such a genius and it was all so original. I wish I’d got to see him live but love watching the videos and the Thriller hen party is one of my favourites!
