What are your top 3, all-time favourite hen parties in Southampton?
- Grease hen party - I love pretending to be the characters from the movie
- Burlesque hen party – It’s always fun and girlie plus I get the opportunity to create my sexy alter ego
- Bollywood hen party – I love Bollywood dancing – the style is so much fun to dance and I love introducing the groups to something a bit different
What do you like about teaching dance hen parties?
It’s not like normal dance classes because it’s not about teaching people to dance; it’s about celebrating someone’s wedding.
One of the first hen parties I ever taught was a Grease party for a group of about 15 girls. At the start, they were quite shy; a lot of them had only just met and I could tell that they didn’t know what to expect so there were some nerves. They started off politely following my lead but 15 minutes in to the party, I looked around and they were all shouting & laughing together whilst pretending to be Rizzo & Kenickie in the hand Jive. I felt as though I’d given them permission to act like kids and it was fantastic. I love it because it’s basically a job where I get to dance a lot and help people have fun!
What dancers inspire you?
When it comes to inspiration I could spend hours watching various dance clips on Youtube and find that I stumble upon so many amazing dancers/choreographers I haven't heard of before. I love to watch So You Think You Can Dance, Got To Dance and the many other dance shows! I find the physicality in the performances by Jasmin Vardimon Company awe inspiring.
What dance experience do you have?
I have been dancing professionally since graduating from Middlesex University in June 2011, where i achieved a BA Honours Degree in Dance with upper second class honours. I began teaching and choreographing for my local dance school whilst still at college alongside completing my RAD ballet examinations, Modern examinations, tap and jazz classes. I particularly enjoy contemporary, jazz and modern dance.
As well as working for The Cheerleading Company teaching hen parties in Bournemouth, I am also a professional choreographer and I work for an entertainment company based in the south of England, creating their dance shows. I also get the pleasure of performing in these shows regularly.
