What do you love about teaching hen parties in Liverpool and Chester?
It's great fun to learn and teach iconic dances like Dirty Dancing and Single Ladies and then to go out and teach them.
It’s great to work with groups who are there to have a good laugh. I love hearing about different brides wedding plans and working with them and their friends at one of the most exciting times in their life.
My favourite hen party so far has been a bespoke 50’s party. There were 35 in the group and they were all different ages. I taught them a jive master class and after it some of the group really went for it and showed their jiving experience, they could have shown me a few new moves. The group were all in really fab costumes and because there were so many of them it was a great atmosphere – their last dance to Rockin’ Robin looked amazing.
Who are your dance inspirations?
What dance experience have you had?
I always knew that my career would involve dance in some way, from the time I started taking community classes as a child. I started training in ballet, tap, jazz and contemporary and I haven’t stopped since. I went on to train at Edge Hill University and finished with a 1st class Degree in Dance. I have been teaching dance for the last 6 years. I have worked as assistant choreographer for some high profile performances, a community coach working in disadvantaged areas and I am also a qualified cheer and street cheer coach. I love teaching a passing on all the dance experience I have gained over the years and to help spread the joy of dancing – seeing people having fun and moving around is great.
As well as coaching hen parties with The Cheerleading Company, I am Head Dance Coach for the Community Trust at a local, high profile football club. As part of my job I teach in primary schools delivering dance within PE and I also teach all ages through community dance sessions. I get to choreograph performances which are performed on pitch at half time in front of a huge home crowd!
Over the last five years I have worked as a freelancer teaching for some really exciting companies. Most recently I have the opportunity to work with Northern Ballet Company to deliver their ballet summer courses. As a performer, I have performed at venues like the Lowry Theatre in Salford, The Millennium Stadium, Old Trafford and The Royal Albert Hall.
Who are your dance inspirations?
As contemporary dancer, I’m really inspired my contemporary artists and companies like Jasmin Vardimon, Random Dance and Phoenix Dance Theatre. I’m also inspired by lots of commercial styles and I love to watch music videos and the X – factor, whenever high profile choreographers come up North I love to take class with them and learn some new moves. Obviously a big dance inspiration for me is Beyonce, I love to shake my bum and wiggle a lot and just pretend to be her.
