What do you like about teaching Cheerleading Company hen parties?
I love our hen parties because they are great fun and everyone is always so happy and enthusiastic. There’s never a dull moment and the workshop always gives the group something special to remember. I particularly enjoy the teaching side of it as I get to work with lots of different people and everyone has their own style to add. It’s great when a group leave the party really happy and get in contact with The Cheerleading Company afterwards to say what an excellent time they have had and how they re-created the routines on the dance floor later on! It always makes me feel so proud to think that I have been involved in someone’s hen party and given them an experience that the bride will remember it forever.
What types of dance do you enjoy?
I enjoy all types of dance whether I’m learning a new style or perfecting a routine for a show. I gained my teaching qualification at Dance Academy South West where I specialised in Modern/Jazz and Tap so I always love these. But from a performance point to view, I’m always drawn to doing something a bit different & edgy. I have done lots of Burlesque, show girl & can can performances. I’ve also performed in a Charleston troupe and as a result, the Charleston party is my favourite.
Who are your dance inspirations?
I’ve always loved watching MTV, especially pop music videos that make you want to learn routine. Icons that inspire me include Michael Jackson, Madonna, Kylie and Britney to name a few. I particularly like music videos that have a story to such as thriller, smooth criminal, baby one more time.
I also enjoy classical dance shows and musicals, from Swan Lake to Hairspray. The work Matthew Bourne has done with choreographing modern versions of Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella are breathtaking as is some contemporary dance from companies like Rambert.
